The objects, mostly metal, include axes and chisels, with a predominance of iron specimens, while one bronze axe stands out among them – Celtic, as well as a bronze key and a fragment of a key. The axe – Celtic dates back to the Bronze Age, while other objects can be placed in a wider time frame. The areas of Brčko and Bijeljina were inhabited during the prehisto ric and Roman periods, and the settlement of this area continued in the Middle Ages and in later times. The archaeological finds in question testify to the daily use of these objects throughout the mentioned periods.
Mersiha Imamović Copyright (c) 2025 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-12-30 2024-12-30 10 13 46 Palanka in the 1644-1646 Sijjil of Tuzla https://hm.ff.untz.ba/index.php/hm/article/view/90
This paper analyses five documents from the Sijjil of the Tuzla qadi/judge from 1644–1646, where the term “palanka” is mentioned. All documents are firmans, or decrees issued in the name of the Sultan from the Divan of Buda. Two firmans deal with cerāḫors, a construction workers from the privileged re‘aya class who worked on fortress repairs. Two firmans address the usurpation of the duty of reciting prayers for the Sultan – du’āgūluḳ. One firman pertains to wandering groups of Roma. In all documents, “palanka” is a general term; no specific place is directly referred to as “palanka,” nor are any further characteristics provided. These documents are significant for historical studies as they highlight strong connections between Ottoman Hungary and Ottoman Bosnia through various situations.
Nihad Dostović Copyright (c) 2025 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-12-30 2024-12-30 10 47 64 Basics and guidelines of tourism development in Bosnia and Herzegovina until 1914 https://hm.ff.untz.ba/index.php/hm/article/view/91
The work will present a succinct review of ideological and infrastructural foundations of tourism as well as the course of its development from elite tourism to indications of the first steps ta ken towards mass tourism du ring the period of AustroHungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In particular, they point to the fact that initially the organization of care for war invalids encountered serious organizational and material problems, because there were no institutions and facilities for that purpose in the country. The weakly developed network of health institutions, in terms of personnel and space, was taken aback by the sudden influx of wounded and sick soldiers returning from the battlefield. Certain types of disea ses, such as tuberculosis and some other Bosnian diseases, could not be adequately treated by the domestic health system even until the end of the war. The main task of the authori ties in the beginning was treatment, and later the range of care for the wounded and sick was significantly expanded. They especially tried to provide social care for the disabled, and then institutions were established for their rehabilitation, retraini ng and training for selfemployment. Special governmental institutions established during the war, as well as the nongovernmental sector, worked on this.
Salkan Užičanin Copyright (c) 2025 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-12-30 2024-12-30 10 113 164 “Insurrection frequent around Tuzla, the commune rose up” Causes and effects of the 1920 Husino insurrection https://hm.ff.untz.ba/index.php/hm/article/view/93
The Husino Uprising, which was praised as one of the “most significant class battles in the old Yugoslavia,” attracted a great deal of attention, particularly after 1945, when the class stru ggle became the dominant histo rical lens. Despite the extensive socialist historiography on the Husino Uprising, critical questions remained unanswered until the disintegration of Yugoslavia in 1991. Between 1945 and 1991, the past was revised by historians mainly to conform to the political narrative of the CPY. After 1991, interest in the subject waned as attention shifted to other topics. It was not until 2012 that Omer Hamzić revealed that in Husino the National Guard, armed by the Serbian authorities was involved alongside Serbian police and army, giving the class struggle of the uprising an ethnic dimension.
Božidar Jezernik Copyright (c) 2025 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-12-30 2024-12-30 10 165 214 Emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United States of America in the period of Monarchist Yugoslavia.
